Picnic on the Peninsula
Your day begins at the Canon Richards Tea Room – a kind of cultural home-base for most Peninsula adventures!
A picnic adventure in one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s oldest outports, Port de Grave’s Picnic on the Peninsula promises scenic views with stories of special places told by locals.
Once your picnic has been lovingly packed in a locally-made breadbox, your journey will begin. Guided by a beautifully illustrated map, you can explore at your own pace while a special “NFC chip” implanted in your picnic box will bring your phone alive with the experiences of local residents, helpful histories, and a yarn or two along the way. (A “yarn” is a story or tale, for the uninitiated!)
Pick your perfect picnic spot at your leisure. Will it be Green Point Lighthouse, Port de Grave Harbour, or maybe Ship Cove Pond? You decide! Start your tour as you leave the Tea Room and find a place to settle down and enjoy stories of the people and places of the Port de Grave Peninsula.
*To make sure our beloved breadboxes find their way home, we require a $50 refundable deposit. After you’ve soaked up the sunshine, savoured your lunch, and explored the area, simply return the breadbox to the Tearoom and we’ll promptly refund the deposit.
Please note: Our Breadboxes are part of the experience and not available for purchase.
