Captain a Shalloway

Ever wondered what it would be like to captain your own fishing vessel? Now’s your chance! Take the wheel of a “Shalloway” — a type of fishing vessel used by the French and then the English. You’ll learn to “scull” on picturesque Ship Cove Pond. (One-hour rentals.)

Picnic on the Peninsula

There are few finer Peninsula traditions than packing a picnic and heading to one of our splendid sites to feed belly and soul. Lovingly packed in a locally-made bread box, you can work up an appetite exploring your exquisite surroundings, then find the perfect spot to settle down for a bite. There are many extraordinary picnic spots on the Peninsula, including the lighthouse, the harbour, and Hibbs Cove. Explore and enjoy!

Hike & Heritage Adventure

Exercise meets education with this unique experience! Grab a passport and take a hike back in time to see the Peninsula’s history and heritage up close. Make your way through historic Hibbs Cove, the Green Point Lighthouse, the Fisherman’s Museum, and more. Journey all the way to today, as you learn about our modern-day fishing industry at the Port de Grave Harbour.

Become A Crab Fisher

How do you catch a crab? The answer isn’t as simple as you may think! Learn all there is to know about the modern commercial snow crab fishery — from making the crab pot, to knot tying and mending twine, through to setting the pot and harvesting crab. A truly coastal culinary experience that will leave you with an appreciation of how snow crab goes from ocean to plate. It’ll knock you sideways!

Christmas in the Harbour

This is a truly special experience. Christmas is a magical time in Port de Grave, and this attraction is its crowning glory. Imagine 50 to 60 boats, all cloaked in colourful Christmas lights that shimmer off the evening waters. Grab a hot chocolate and start the season right!
